Headboards are mainly decorative. So when selecting the wood, pick a beautiful wood that works with the room that you are using it in. The second set of plans is a Farmhouse Headboard. There they use a cheap wood and then paint it. Consider going with a better wood and then not painting it. Headboards are designed for specific size beds. If the plan is too large or small for your bed just adjust the width of the plans to fit the size of bed that you have.
