This video is about turning logs into usable lumber. He does this using cheaper hand tools as apposed to power tools. You may already have most of these basic tools. It will take some effort to convert a log into lumber though. Once you get into the habit of making your own boards, you will find that you almost never buy lumber anymore. You will need somewhere to store the wet boards while they dry out. In the video he does quarter sawn red oak which is a fairly hard wood.
