How to Refinish Furniture

In this video we are going to look at refinishing painted furniture without stripping. Stripping is when you use chemicals to remove a project’s current finish. The main benefit of repairing existing projects is that it’s cheaper and easier than building new furniture.

In the video she starts by sanding with 80-grit, then 120-grit and then 220-grit. She doesn’t sand everything off because she is going to use a darker color paint. If you plan on using a lighter color paint then you have to remove more of the previous paint and then use a primer.

The paint she uses is Tricorn Black by Sherwin Williams in a satin finish. In the video she fills the drawer hole after painting. You likely want to fill it before you paint.
