In the video he makes the sign using a scroll saw. The hand tool equivalent of a scroll saw is a coping saw. The tape he puts on the plank is to reduce tear-out. He prints out the pattern and then sticks the printout to his plank. This is an easy project suitable for beginners.
The pattern for this project is in a zip file. You will need to download it to your hard disk. Extract the files inside it. Then open and print the image file.
